The Monarch Award is an honor given to one of 20 picture books nominated for this Illinois State Award. Students in Kindergarten through third grade have been introduced to all 20 nominees and will have their chance to vote for their favorite in the Spring. Students in grades 3-5 have been introduced to 20 nominees for the Bluestem Award. With a variety of fiction and non-fiction, picture books and novels, there is a genre for everyone. Below is a list of the 20 nominees for the Illinois Bluestem Award:
2020 Bluestem Award
Destiny Quest - This is our library program that allows students to use and personalize their own library accounts. One of the functions on Destiny Quest includes keeping track of the books students have read, the books they are currently reading, and the books they would like to read.
TrueFlix - Students were introduced to this resource in order to select a topic and find information for a classroom project. This resource provides digital books with accompanying videos on a variety of science and social studies topics.
Holiday Research - What are the important aspects of some of the most celebrated holidays around the world? Third graders are researching various holidays with the purpose of gaining an understanding of other cultures. They will be looking into when, how, and why these holidays are celebrated and creating a Google Slide show to present their research.
